Bypass the Solenoid?

My ignition on my 85 bronco went out and I'm resorting to Bypassing the Solenoid and stalling my truck to start and stop it. Will this affect anything later on, someone says my alternator will go out if I keep doing this (it wont be until a while til I can get it fixed and I have to drive across town to get to school)

Whoever told you the alternator would go out needs to be avoided at all times. Next he (or she as the case may be) will tell you that if your back tires go frontward, your right side high beam will burn out.

Essentially you are hot wiring the truck to get around. It could have some side effects since you are shorting out a circuit to make the truck run. The alternator and regulator are the most vulnerable parts in the electrical system.

awww come on! the solenoid is about the cheapest & easiest thing on the truck to replace. git'er done! mow a yard or shovel some snow or something.
