Its nothing to do with congestion, just another tax disguised as a green issue. If we weren't subsidising Europe, paying for wars &paying out billions of pounds in benefits it wouldn't be neccessary!Are car companies the laziest organisations ever?!?

Totally and utterly against it.Reason 1. The technology to police that would cost millions. The bill for that as well as the the charge would come out of our pocket.

Reason 4. If they do start charging by the mile then they had better do away with road tax, which is something they have not mentioned doing.

Charging by mile is unworkable, over expensive and just downright intrusive.

In some ways I do agree that drivers should pay more in proportion to their mileage. However, this greedy government would use this extra tax to fill in the black hole in their budget.If a "pay as you drive" system was fairly implemented with a discontinuation of the present road tax then I believe it would be acceptable, as long as the payment per mile was fair and the income is used to support alternative transport and the betterment of our road systems.
We already pay by the mile. It's called fuel tax.
