I have an autistic son of nearly 18 who is desperate to learn how to drive. I dont think he would cope but i have to give him a chance to try. Does anyone know of a centre that might give him a few lessons away from public roads to see how he would manage. I live in Kent so need to be in that area. Thanks

I believe that the larger driving schools are able to help on this one. My cousin had two lessons with the AA, so might be worth starting with them. Worst case you could take him out?Good for him! There is Romford Cardrome (Hornchurch) which is a practice road that you can go around - you don't need a provisional license or insurance or anything, just take along a car to practice in. I'm not trying to be offensive but would it not be better to take him go kart racing first. I'm no expert but from what i glean from public information autistic people have a higher perception of surrounding stimuli. BTW I'm an agoraphobic, i have to wait at lights even when the road is clear. i'm also a super sports biker i ride a 98 fireblade. if i've said anything offensive i apologise but as i said i'm agoraphobic, trying to keep a cool head as the world rushes by is scary.
