expensive cars get in accidents too. expensive cars usually have more options that break more frequently. expensive cars have more expensive parts which means more expensive repairs. expensive fast cars (such as turboed cars) dont have nearly the reliability (lifespan) as a non turboed car.
trucks and jeeps need bigger tires which cost much more money. usually better gas mileage is to be had with a cheaper 4 cylindar car.
just take it from me, i learned the hard way.
now i buy the cheapest option that fits my standards (safety, fuel effiency, I also look at how the cars built and determine how many miles it will last me)...
i can tell you that all the best cars on the market right now are under 19,000 bucks.
