can it be done and how much would it cost? I just got a 2000 Mustang. It's only a V6 because I needed something good on gas and it's a hard top. I would love to have a convertable. How much would that cost?

It would cost far more to convert a hard top than to buy a convertible. Frame needs stiffened, doors are different, windshield and header are different, rear windows operate differently, body needs radical changes in and behind the back seat, and then you still have the top linkage and the top itself to deal with. The roof on your hard top is structural, and provides significant stiffening to the body. If you simply cut the roof off, and walk away from the car overnight, you won't be able to open the doors in the morning.
