The Look of Electric Cars?

Question:
Maybe I have the wrong idea here as maybe there are lots but... Why are electric cars generally so ugly/strange looking/stupid looking?

When is the earliest i could get my drivers permit and then my full license?

I think electric cars are a good idea in principle but a lot of the time I feel car companies make them ugly for no reason. Possibly because there's more money to make with petrol cars and they are ofter closely link to oil companies maybe... What are your thoughts?

Have you ever seen the electric cars developed in the eighties? They were damn ugly and only managed about ten feet before the batteries died or the extension lead reached its limit.

What is the most affordable place to buy a rims/tires combo for a truck.?? in Maryland?

Modern electric cars are (in my opinion) an idea worth pursuing but you have to remember that a car is a big heavy lump of metal and while its easy to give it a lot of power with an internal combustion engine, electrical energy is far harder to store than a gallon of petrol (though battery technology is improving all the time) so most manufacturers create a totally new lightweight car to show of their electric drive system and these cars are designed more to make a statement, by looking really futuristic for example, or to enhance the performance/economy by being very aerodynimic and not providing room for extra weight such as wife/children and two dogs. The new hybrid cars are a step in the right direction but to me they seem a bit of a half measure as they charge the batteries by burning petrol most of the time.

What is the smallest car i can tow a trailer tent with?

I think it will not be long (ten years?) before we see a new pure electric car that is designed to tempt the average motorist. But then again, what about the oil companies? They will not be happy to see a car that can do a hundred or even just fifty miles on a cheap rate overnight charge provided by the national grid rather than a forecourt.

What is the name/brand of the car that is medium sized and is box like?

I think you are right, they try to make it look like a bunch of nerds drive electric cars. Here is a cool looking one though but it costs a lot.

How often does asphalt concrete need to be replaced, i.e. in a parking lot?

I totally agree with you. The Honda Insight and Toyota Prius are two of the ugliest cars I would not drive them if gas was free to put in them. I haven't done much research but thought I remember hearing about a hybrid Nissan Altima and Ford truck that look the same but have much better gas mileage. The only thing I can think why they make them so ugly is they possibly want to let them catch on slowly so they can make as much money as possible off of the gas cars and gas itself, which brings up a whole other topic altogether. I think in the next 5-10 years every car will be a hybrid.

Can u get a hardship license with a felony possession?

I'm certain we could come up with cars right now that could get 300 miles to the gallon, or probably not even need fuel, but then the gov't wouldn't make all the money off of fuel that it does, which makes the world go round.

When are flying cars going to come out?

I think initially they were designed not so much for the aesthetics, but for accomodating the equipment...Consider all the batteries in an electric car

Windsheid wiper fluid?

Take a look at the Phoenix, it's a relatively normal-looking new electric pickup truck:

*
Using Altairnano batteries (based on the latest research from MIT), the Phoenix can:
*
- Drive up to 250 miles per charge
- Carry 5 passengers plus cargo at 95mph
- Charges batteries in as little as TEN minutes.
- Has a battery life of 250,000 miles (never replace the batteries.)
*
-The cost of electricity to drive, in most places, is only a penny or two per mile.
-The cost of maintenence is also very low. Electric motors have only one moving part, and can last decades without repairs.
*
Cost is about $45,000. Expensive, but they are hand-built. The cost will drop if they are mass-produced. These are only being sold to fleet customers right now, but will be for sale to the public next year.
*
If you're nervous about the high cost, buy an electric car conversion (an old car converted to electricity.) These cars are based on old battery technology, but are very inexpensive - as little as $5000. They also look like normal cars, since they started out as everyday gas-powered cars.
*
I drive one of these. Since it's old battery technology, my battery pack lasts about 25,000 miles, if I take care of it, and costs about $1000 to replace. So that works out to about 4 cents per mile. My electricity cost is 1 cent per mile, so my total cost per mile is 5 cents. Other maintenence costs are very low. It's a very old car (from 1981) but the motor has never needed service in 25 years.
