Customer demand requires that things like AC, power windows, locks, navigation systems, stereos, heated seats, etc, etc are available for these cars and all these requires space. Today's cars have more features and luxuries than any cars in history and more are being added every year. It has got to go somewhere.
I think that it would be a good idea when the designers design a car a mechanic reviews the design and ask simple questions like "How the heck am I to get that AC pump off?"
The "Jaws Of Life " do they use a portable hydrolic pump or an air compressor ?

Auto makers and commercial services have the equipment to hoist vehicles upward until the mechanics are happy. Older shops lacking this equipment have a wide deep trench over which vehicles drive with two wheels on either side. At thelow end technology side is the average owner with no lift or
trench. The designs are as found because they, not reader, attend most of the repairs speedily as possible. It is repair turnaround time that increases profit earning. Stupid, it is not.
