my friend told me this today and my brother and sister got their permits at 16 and licence at 17. they were born in '87 and '89 so she said it was just for people born from '92 on like us. anyone know?

No, sounds like they are lying.The rule is "You must be 16 years of age or older to apply for a learner permit. If you are under the age of 18, your parent or your legal guardian must sign the consent section of your form MV-44 (Driver License Application). Your parent or legal guardian can sign the form before you bring it to a DMV office. Your parent or legal guardian is not required to go to the DMV office with you to sign form MV-44."
As long as you turned 16, you can apply for a permit.
Then you can get your license at age 18 (or 17 if you have taken driver's ed).

I'm assuming that you don't live in NYC, where it has always been 18 to get your license (17 only with driver's ed). I even have an old book of my grandpa's from the 30s that said the driving age in NY was 18 (don't know why, there weren't a whole lot of cars back then--and the Depression was going on).Cheapest way to move ourselves and a small amount of furniture?
