Ha, ha! This is exactly what us car guys have been saying from day ONE! Though hybrids do get very good fuel mileage the initial cost of the vehicle and the looney-toons cost of the replacement batteries and fuel cell makes any savings null and void. I vote we make all Hollywood stars and enviro-nuts ride taxis and trains and give up their private jets for two years (or longer). Then they can really put their money where their HUGE mouths are.

that's why you just stick with a good ol' diesel car, those last 400k+ miles. Then power it with biodiesel, which is much better for the enviornment and you don't need much modification of a diesel.

The main problem with "environmentalists" is that they think with their emotions, and not their intellect. Tests have shown that over the long haul, a hybrid automobile is no more economical to operate, all things considered, than a small gasoline or diesel powered car. I'm disabled and must use a powered wheelchair (love my Hoveround), and I know that I have to replace the batteries on a regular schedule.

Hybrids are just a stop gap measure until the hydrogen cars can come along and the intrastructure to support them. I still think we can go to a diesel and use a generator to drive the car just like the trains are using now.

Even batteries on gasoline cars need to be changed, batteries do not last forever. The average battery for a gasoline/diesel car s 5 years. if they're saying a hybird car can get 8 years out of a battery, then thats 3 extra years over a standard battery. No battery lasts forever. Seals start leaking, chemical compositions decay, and the case weakens from abuse and vibrations. 5 years is good, 8 years is amazing.
