Bailey Discovery Landau 1995?

Being a retired firefighter, I have personally used and have been certified to use them. Most "Jaws" have a gasoline powered hydraulic pump. In fact most fire dept stuff is either gas or electric powered, and the electric powered stuff is usually recharged by a gasoline generator.

Isn't it about time car makers got their fingers out?

i own a shop, and i have seen them use hydraulic pump ,and an air compressor ,it all depends on if they can get to it with a air hose or they might use a hand pump if its in off in a real deep ditch or over a bluff, most of the time they do have enough line to reach most vehicles, good luck hope this helps.

Looking for motoring organisations that can check a vehicle (like RAC & AA) in Spain, Germany & Netherlands??

It is a hydraulic press that can either cut or pull apart.(the ones I have seen anyway) Air cylinders work on the same principal but fluid has the advantage of being non-condensible. Hydraulics can also apply tons of pressure where air cannot.

Hydrolic fluids don't condense (stole that from post above...great wording) which makes them ideal for mechanical movement... the pumps that drive the fluid can be run by air, d.c. motor, a.c. motor or even hand pump
