i own a shop ,and most of the time it will increase it,a lot of it depends on the type road your on,and if its shifting up and down all the time or not,but in 90% of the cars it always increases it,especially on the open road,good luck i hope this helps.

Overdrive will increase mileage but it makes the car shift up and down alot more so id only reccomend using it on the highway or interstate.How much over the limit for speeding before you get into trouble?
If you are doing a lot of town miles, it really doesn't make a difference since you won't be going into overdrive. If you are driving on the road, then its intended purpose will be met by the vehicle engine not revving up as much as not having overdrive and thus, this will save you on fuel consumption and engine wear. There is a little catch to it that manufacturers won't tell you and that is that the gear ratio in the differential for vehicles with o/d is lower than that without. On some vehicles with big engines, this will actually cause it to burn more fuel in town since the engine is not under any strain and its revving up more. On smaller engines, this lower gear ratio helps it for easier take off. The engine doesn't strain as much and therefore it helps it in fuel consumption in town and on the road.It will increase your mileage under normal driving conditions.
