OK all BS aside. Does anyone know the REAL reason as to why we are paying 55 cents per gallon more in California than the rest of the country?
No- It is not because we have a higher average income, because there are plenty of places around here where people earn next to nothing and our average income per state doesn't differ all that much from others.
What can be the best and affordable alternative to road(road, rail) transport?
No- It is not because we don't have any refineries, there is one 30 min from my house.
No- It doesn't cost no where NEAR 55 cents to get the oil from the east coast to the west. Maybe 1 or 2 cents per gallon tops.
No- it is not because we have "special additives" this used to be true for MTBE, which of course turned out to be a huge fiasco. Now we have ethanol along with the rest of the country.

its because you have a higher average income, you have refineries, it costs .55 cents to get oil from east to west, and because you add special additiivesBecause California has the highest emission standards of any state, and so it costs more to refine oil to meet those standards. Nigerian crude is the purest oil in the world, and virtually all of the Nigerian product goes to California - if THAT supply gets cut off for any reason, expect your fuel costs to go even higher.

You can place the blame directly on the tree huggers, who were responsible for the passing of clean air acts there on the left coast which do indeed increase the costs to refine fuel destined for California, and that cost is passed to the consumer.How can we americans help lower the price of gasoline?
