Is cruise control more eficient?

In a car diesel engine I'm assuming that the more evenly the engine is run the efficient it is. It's a manual by the way.

From what I understand of diesel engines if they run at a constant RPM then they run most efficiently and this is why they use them in boats etc...

The diesels in ships and such are designed to run most efficiently at a certain speed. It's by design, and there's a specific RPM you have to hit. It's not just due to the constant RPM itself.

Why do people put down american cars when they are our bread and butter?


On the other hand a car would save fuel if you drive long distances with it on, as you don't waste energy on acceleration and braking on the way, it's just constant cruising, engine putting out just enough HP to overcome the drag to keep the car at speed.

yes. but you dont want to use it under 45 MPH or on roads that have hills.
