Why do people do this to cars?

I'm so sick of seeing big old cars like Crown Victorias and Impalas with those tall ugly tires and rims! It looks so stupid!! They look like cockroaches driving down the street.

And have you noticed alot of them also have in little chrome numbers how big the rims are?? 22's, 24's, etc.
I drive a rusted out 88 grand am back and forth to work 120 miles a day. The only time it gets washed is when it rains. Its a beater! I just drive it back and forth to work to save putting 600 miles a week on my truck (plus its better on gas than my truck).
Its white (except where the rust is), so what I did, is I took a black magic marker and wrote 14" in black letters about 6 inches high where they usually put those chrome #'s. I did it to totally make fun of those guys who do that to their cars.

Every now and then driving down the highway or in traffic here in SW suburban Chicago, Ill get a nod and a wave, or a thumbs up from other people who also thinks those cars look stupid. Of course, I wont take the car to Joliet and leave it un-attended (I might come back and the tires would be flat).

Well its because those people can't afford new cars like Cadillacs and such. They can only afford the old cars and they get in debt and buy big rims for the cars. Did you know that you can rent rims? Its a big business down in the south so if you see someone driving down the road with oversized rims on their old raggedy car they probably are just renting the rims and didn't buy them.
