it won,tRunning the AC will cost you about 2-3 miles per gallon on the average. Depends on how hot it is and how hard you're running the AC. Anything that adds load to an engine, AC, power steering, climbing hills, Running at high speeds, etc. will cause it to consume more gas.

The "Car Guys" on NPR reported on a study done by the ASME folks where the mileage costs of AC was compared to driving with the windows down - there was little if any difference. A surprise to me. You might search their site for an update or clarification.It will drop it a good amount. it does on my Durango. like 5 mpg easily.

If your under 40 miles per hour use the windows, Faster than 40 miles per hour creates drag on the car because the windows are down.

funny you should ask. running a vehicle at 60 mph on a flat asphalt road . the car will get about the same gas milage. asuming that the windows are down . and the ac is off the air in the inside the car will create drag which the car has to over come going down the road. with the windows up and the ac on the ac acts as a the drag.More Questions & Answers ...
