To switch gears you need to be on the clutch (to seperate the engine and tranny)
How do i set the heater in a alfa156 to read in Celsius?
So, to get started you would either start the car in neutral or with your foot on the clutch. (turn key)
I want to get out of my lease on my car so that I can buy a new car.. Any suggestions?
To go from a stop, recess the clutch to the floor, place car in 1st, get the engine to about 1200 rpm (still with the clutch down) and slowly release the clutch. If the engine begins to stall, push down a little bit (on the clutch) and slow the release of the clutch. Do not push more on the gas.
Now that you have gotten the hard part, on to changing gears.
How much does nitrous oxide cost for your car to make it go faster??
Now that the engine is at about 3000 rpm in 1st gear you need to go to 2nd. So let off the gas, push the clutch all the way down, change gears, release the clutch (but not too quickly) and push the gas pedal to go.

This extends the life of your clutch.

Does anybody like the cars called novas?
Driving a 5 speed is an art that is not being taught to enough of today's youth. 5 speeds are fun, more fuel effiecient, feel faster, have more control, cheaper, and just cooler than automatics. Not to mention chicks dig 5 speeds. They would rather get in their car and drive mindlessly. We are a dying breed, we actually think while we drive. Good luck, show off to your friends.
Does anyone know wat will happen if...?
good question i wanna learn tooWhat types of fuels can cause Backfires ?
Driving with a manual transmission just takes coordination. You must press down on the clutch when shifting and then slowly release the clutch as you step on the accelerator. After a while you get the feel and know when to upshift and when to downshift. Why do you think special import cars are not brought to the US?
You start in first and move up the gears as you increase the speed. You downshift when you want more power for passing or climbing hills.
How do you add a url to your car on car domain?
It's not that hard, just takes some getting used to. There is a little map on the gearshifter that tells you where 1st, 2nd, etc. gears are. To start the car, use both feet to push the brake pedal and the clutch while you turn the ignition. Leave the car in 1st to start, even if you have to reverse immediately. But let's pretend you can go straight ahead. In first gear, SLOWLY release the clutch as you begin to press the accelerator and the car will start to move forward, hopefully not quick! As you increase speed, you will need to shift up to second. Don't forget the clutch! Aaarrgh! That grinding sound means you forgot it. Push in the clutch, shift to second, release immediately. Same for the other gears. Just try it. It's fun and you can pay a lot less to get a manual car, because no one in the US knows how to drive them.Start car:

Mechanic wannabes! Answer this:?
Release the brake, release the clutch slowly, and apply gas as you release the clutch.
Are Toyota Celicas and Supras similar? If so, how?
Each transmission responds slightly differently, but if you let the clutch out too quickly, the car stalls. Go back to the beginning.
Is this a good way to save money on gas?
Once the clutch is no longer pressed, drive along in 1st gear (or reverse). When you are ready to go to 2nd gear, release the gas, depress clutch fully, switch to 2nd, and release the clutch the same time you apply gas.
What is the price of gasoline for a gallon at your home town?
Getting the car rolling is the hardest part, where the transmission is touchiest. Once you are rolling, the rest of the gears are fairly easy to shift into and out of.
Do any body know the answers to the drivers training test?
I think all semi's are BTW. Driving a stick.. If you understand the concept, you should be able to catch on. Practice pressing the gas just enough (in neutral) to rev the engine a bit.not a lot. (this would be a LOT easier for someone to show you) your going to have your left foot on the clutch pedal TO THE FLOOR, you will slowly let it out til it starts to catch. The key is not to have it rub for longer than is required to get the car moving. If you let it out without enough gas, it will drag the engine, jerk and die. If you let it out too slow, you will burn your clutch. its all about finess.Once you get in the driver seat of a stick, make sure you practice on downhill or flat roads! if you get stuck at a red light with someone behind you facing uphill, its harder to get it, not ust mentally, but it takes more friction to move the car. Think about how you press the brake harder then when you come to a stop, you let off so its just enough to hold the car in place. Its basically backwards of that, you want to let it off to pull the car, and when you are going, you want to let it go all together!
Do I need a license to drive someone to the airport for money?
Things to remember: you will just have to get the hang/timing of it. You should never rest your left foot on the clutch while driving. You should always hold it to the floor when not driving or parked. Make sure you are out of gear before you let out the clutch when you park (dont forget the parking brake) Dont worry about downshifting, when you brake, push in the clutch while braking.
If u bought a car and it broke down a few days later and they fixed it and its fine then...?

Three wheel trims, is this illegal?
I have been driving manual cars for over 30 years and it's real easy.I'm not going to answer this question because you already have lots of information from the answers above.
There is one thing I'm thinking about ....
You didn't say whether it is a left hand drive or right. The gear lever has a diagram on it. In New Zealand (right hand drive) 1st gear is put in neutral first, pull to the left and push up, 2nd is straight down, 3rd is push through neutral to the right and up, 4th straight down. Neutral is the middle of the gears. Won't go into 5th gear because I'm confusing myself and I'll end up writing a novel.
