Does a diesel car engine need a turbo charger for good acceleration?

Question:

What would be a better choice a Subaru WRX STI or a Honda Civic SI?

no , but they do get better torque and fuel millage with the turbo. They also have a nerrow power band and thus need more gears.

Is there any way to get more power out of a car, such as mods, but increasing my feul effeciency?

Yes. Diesel motors make plenty of torque but not enough horsepower. Thats where turbos come in they boost rather fast from the exhuast the motor creates and helps get a bit more HP. Even wiht a turbo they arnt going to be super fast but it will help if you need to get on an on ramp in a hurry.

Are electric cars really so environmentally friendly?

No it does not, the acceleration is determined by the weight, and gearing of the automobile. I remember when my father had a 1980 Buick Electra that had the diesel motor in it. It came with a 2.11 rear end for economy reasons (thing got 27 miles to the gallon on a V8 diesel) the rear end went out on it when the retards at the quick lube drained the rear and forgot to fill it back up. My dad put a 3.50 rear back in to it and that car got up and moved with the torque that Diesel put out. It ran way better with the new rear end. It never had a turbo, still runs to this day. It's my part running car for my shop.

Is "advanced driving" really so advanced, or is it just basic drivng without silly mistakes?

Yes, they were buit for gas mileage and pulling power, not racing.A good turbo manufacturer can add serious pony's to your oil burner!
