I agree with Mr Watts except for the "soulful European design" part, unless you are looking at expensive Italian sports cars. A European econobox looks like a Japanese econobox to me. Might as well pick the Japanese car, you know it will have better reliability.

Obviously none of you "experts " fixes cars for a living. You couldn't give me a european car. In general they are plagued with expensive and hard to fix problems. Americans and Japanese build more reasonably priced cars with the same features and less problems than the Europeans. However, "best" is a relative term. Best what? best looking? best performing? best price? best reliability? Chances are, best is best defined by high customer satisfaction rating. Europeans, like Mercedes and Jaguar are at the bottom of the list. Honda and Toyota have been rated the best for years now. So for all you suckers who buy a car as a status symbol, and willingly pay too much for a car to impress your neighbors, the Europeans will be waiting for you. They can see a sucker from 5000 miles away. Ask Dr Z.
