A few years ago, after the transporter refilled a shell station near my job, the driver didn't put the caps on the tank correctly and the melting snow and water FLOWED into the tanks. In under an hour, we had 23 cars and trucks towed into our shop not running. They paid for all repairs through their insurance. This was an extreme example, but cars can run with just drops of water. It will not hurt them and you will not notice. But more than a cup in your tank can shut you down. Water will not mix with fuel. the gas will float, and you pump will only pump water, shutting you down!

water ruins gasoline... Water and gas cannot mix together! However, most gas has a percentage of alcohol mixed with it. Water can and will attach to the alcohol, then it is suspended within the gas. If it makes it thru the filters that are under the dispenser and into your auto, it will then cause the engine to NOT fire a spark....
