Unfortunately you can only drive PART of Route 66 as some has been plowed under many many years ago. I drove From Chicago, IL to Holbrook, AZ (a little ways east of Flagstaff) and it took me about three days, but I was not in a rush, and I was not sightseeing.

What do i do if my car breaks down on a between citys highway / freeway?

If you want to see the sights, and plan on doing the entire route, I would recommend taking a week or more.

I don't know but I can tell you it is the most beautiful drive you can take. My wife and I drove on 66 for two days and loved it. The move about route 66 in the 60's was great and they never got off it. So much to see. So many restaurant's to go into and look at all the memorabilia ? So many signs to read and enjoy. I say take your time and enjoy...
