Please define 4x4 gas guzzler?

Question:
I have an almost brand new Nissan X-Trail 2.2 dci Columbia. It is in 2 wheel drive for about 360 days of the year, but has the ability to switch itself to 4x4 should it detect wheel spin. In effect it is a 2 wheel drive estate car.
How much tax will I pay as I am not sure whether it comes under the heading of "4x4 gas guzzler" as it does about 48 mpg diesel? Will I be penalised for having a car with such a good safety feature?
I need it living up here in the Highlands.

Your X-Trail certainly isn't a 'gas guzzler' if it's a 2.2 Diesel. You probably get better MPG than I do from my 2.0 petrol Alfa. I think the term refers to the town twits in their BMW X5s & Mercedes ML500s, most of which will struggle to beat 15 MPG in city use.
Sadly, these folk have far more money than sense, and road tax could be £1,000 a year & they'd still pay up.

Which is the best Driving School in Barrow-inFurness Cumbria.?

I know what you mean. It's so easy to just say 4x4 must pay higher tax. My boss has a Subaru justy 1 litre. That's 4 wheel drive, Does that count? And like you say, Yours is just a 2.2 What about the 3 litre BMW's and the 3.3 litre jags. There not 4x4 but they pollute more then your car does.

Is it risky to buy a '99 Chrysler with 184k miles?

The Gas Guzzlers they are really going to hit are vehicles like the Cadillac Escalade, Suburban etc. In other words big vehicles. I think my little Jimmy is in the Guzzler class. Do not hold me to it but I think your vehicle comes in under the wire. It's big brother the pathfinder is the start.

What will happen if the hanbrake was pulled you forget about it and you are driving?

Its to do with emissions apparently. But Group G which is the one all the talk is about is for certain cars/jeeps whatever made after 2006 with a certain level of emmission.
Luckily my 4litre Jeep Cherokee V6 was made before this so I'm not in this higher tax band.

What does 4.0 or 3.5 liter engine mean?

i dont know how they are going to work it out, but what if you have a 2.5 or a 3 litre 4x4 but it has a gas conversion on it, how do you stand then with the higher tax, gas is enviromentally friendly, well more than diesel it is isnt it.
