Cuz America is America! We are a country that gives us opportunities for anything and we think gas is just another thing. we have no idea what it's like in other countries.. that's why we live in the land of the free.. we are able to do whatever we want basically... just we need to get rid of Bush! lol.The damn gas prices are way to high anyways while the damn rich oil companies make a killing. They complain because of the sudden increase in price and yet the oil companies are making greater profits than they ever have. It is true that our prices are lower than most other countries but thats not the issue. Let me raise the price of your food 150% in one year and see if you complain.It's all relative...here, $3.00 per gallon is a bit much, considering that the oil companies are posting record profits in the BILLIONS of dollars.

One thing to consider is that the majority of Americans do not live in a city w/public transportation. They live in areas that you need to drive to get to groceries, schools, work, etc.I agree with poster above that complaints are mostly because we've seen a sharp increase in a short span of time, and have learned that the oil companies have been raking in huge profits.

I guess we can complain because we ARE being ripped off. Apparently the Austrailians are too...But we dont just lie down and take it. Why did Exxon/Chevorn report record earnings all last year and yet...we were led to believe that the high prices were due to a lack of oil because the war. PUHLEASE. American's should be able to drive what ever vehicles they want to drive. Why should I drive a box and the head of Exxon gets taken to lunch in a helicopter? Just in case people wanted to know about the price per gallon you are paying 5.05 AUD = 4.0477 USD. So you are paying about a dollar more a gallon then some of us are paying.

drivers in the uk pay - per litre - approx $1.70 - PER LITRE !approx 70% of which is various taxes.
