How do I make my 944 faster?

Question:
I may sound spoiled, rich, stuck up, or like a prick. But I am not trying to brag and show off. What can I do to make my 1985 Porsche 944 go faster that is relatively cheap ($1000 range, or a little bit more)?

change the mufler and tubes from the engine all the way to the back go with a 3'' in diameter and get glasspack
maybe 500.00 and gains are 15 to 20 horses
