Is the minimum age for driving a standard car in the UK changing to 18 years old on 1st Jan 2008 ?

I have been told that the minimum age is to change. But I have checked the DVLA info which of course only lists current data (not future changes), and googled the web for references but cannot find any. Any one heard this, or seen a reference ?

The minimun age for applying is currently 17. this is also the age at which you can start learning to drive, but you cannot legally drive on your own until you have pessed both theory and practical tests. you cannot take these tests until you are at least 18.
