Car Heater Questions...?

Question:
Hi, I have an 03 Ford Escape with the Basic Blue to Red (cool to warm) thermostat, fan speed selector and A/C engage button. Some my friends have said that I should have the A/C engaged when heating the car. I do not see the point in this as the heater core and evaporator are separate, but this did raise some questions to me. When i have the thermostat turned to warm and i have the A/C button turned on, does the Compressor actually engage? As when I do have the A/C button turned on when thermostat is set to warm i still feel warm air coming out the vents and no change whether A/C button is turned on or off. Help would be great!

Chevy VS Ford survey?

Also if any knows, I am wondering how heating works on a bus/coach with a rooftop unit. Is their a coolant line from the engine that goes up there to heat in the same way a car would or is there a reverse gear on the compressor so it works like a reverse cycle A/C? Help appreciated again!

What is the 'overdrive' button that appears in the car?

your a/c will still turn on if you have the nob in read, all the nob does is open a flap from the ac to the heater core, half way lets in half cold half hot if you put it on max ac with it on hot it is true the car will heat up faster because it will recycle hot air, on a bus it is either electric but mostly a coolant line off the engine we have a 80's model buss and it runs off coolant

Tell your friends they are wrong. either you want heat or cool, can't get both. Some of your more expensive cars do actually switch themselves from hot to cold in order to maintain the temp you set, but not those cars with a RED/BLUE slider bar. The bar opens and closes the gate that allows water from the engine to the heater core, how far you move it decides how much hot water gets thru.

Is the practice test of the permit at dmvnow in virginia the same as the actual test?

If the A/C switch is ON, this activates the A/C clutch which will engange the compressor when cooling is needed and also will turn on the cooling fan on the radiator.

Above roof units often use a heat pump for heat.
