When I was a teenager in the early 90s my parents bought a used 1982 Crown Victoria with probably around 80k miles on it. It lasted until it had more than 300,000 miles on it and then my mother gave it away. I have no idea how long it ultimately lasted. It was a Southern California car (i.e. no rust), so it was in really great condition. They were driving across the country once and broke down (I didn't say it was perfect!) in Chicago. The guy there refused to put it up on the lift, claiming the "bottom would fall out". They pointed out that it had no rust, he was amazed. Incidentally, it lived miles 200-300k+ of its life in New England winters.

My husband had a 1979 Blazer that had horrible rusty cancer--when riding in it you could see out the side of the doors--he accidentally dumped a 32oz soda while driving once and when he got where he was going it had all flowed out the holes. It was on its second engine when he got it and while driving to work once it blew two pistons. We decided to buy a new truck at that point, we probably should have replaced the engine again! We bought a brand new 1996 Chevy S-10 that sucked--it started having problems the second we left the lot. We traded it 3 years later for an F-150 on lease that was great, I was sorry to have to turn it back in, but buying it off lease wasn't worth it. Our current truck is also an F-150 (2002) and we are very happy with it.
