I have a 1999 Tahoe 5.7 and I am having intermitten trouble starting...but eventually can.?

Question:
The car then runs rough for several miles but then seems to run ok. Recently it seems to be getting worse. If I can't start it and wait awhile..it starts. I have replaced the battery and cables. When having trouble starting...it spins easy but then sounds like it is banging.

Sounds like bad plug wires or distributor problem.

Check the distributor cap and rotor. You will likely find the cap is corroded and full of moisture. This is a very common problem on these engines. Replace the cap and rotor as a set. If any of the wire terminals are burnt and sooty looking, including the ignition coil and wire, replace them also.
