Can the United States really grow enough corn to sustain a full and reliable switch to Ethenol Fuel?

It would seem as though they would need cornfields beyond imagination to even support a partial switch.

I live here in corn country "IOWA" and I have heard that if all the ethanol plants are built that they have planned it will take every bushel of grain produced in our state just to keep them going. Also Corn prices have doubled in the past year and will probably double again next year making the ethanol very expensive. I do not see this as a viable option for the future. Although i do like the higher corn prices :-). I am also a mechanic and have checked ethanol gas mileage against regular 93 octane fuel and mileage is within one mile per gallon. Not sure what the answer is but i am sure it will all work out in the end.. It is called supply and demand everyone when we all demand smaller more fuel efficient cars we will get them until that day comes i will keep driving by Big truck with the V8...

Premium to Unleaded gas.?

I think the corn thing will flop , because it lowers your MPG which results in more fill ups , the price is almost as high as gas , and it still requires foreign and domestic oil to manufacture.. so it is not the solution but at least they are trying, I have a truck that is OK to run it in ..but I still think the truck does better on 93 octane , runs smoother , and more power...and hybrids are not all they are cracked up to be ...higher vehicle price tag , low power ,plus higher maintenance cost does not = a solution...

No, it is because of politics and the cost of ethenol fuel. From what I heard somewhere which I don't remember; it costs more to make ethenol fuel. And those oil companies..wouldn't let anybody do such a thing. Greed is power..
