Mark the dings etc...small ones can be removed using putty and filler primer.large dents will require bodywork...pulling and filler.then putty and build primer along with guidecoats.
Once the bodywork is done, then comes the prep work.this is where you primer the car with high build coats.then you lightly coat the primer with a contrasting primer...and use a longboard with 220 to expose the high/lowspots...using a cross-hatching sanding pattern.
What is an "aperiodic membrane?
If you see high spots, work the high areas a bit more than the regular flat areas.respray a contrasting coat and repeat sanding procedure...if high spot still there, continue sanding in crosshatching pattern over the spot.
Once done, if you spot low spots and they are very mild... this is where you shoot another coat of high build primer...and concentrate it on these low spots... Then repeat the contrasting coat until the low spots disappear.you can build high build primer up to two mils to be on the safe side.
Once done...get 400 grit sandpaper, scuff the whole car.mask the entire car, tires and all using masking tape and newspaper.this is where you want to take your time and mask it right.

Once masked.line the garage cieling with plastic tarps.if they cover the car from cieling to garage floor good, if there is a smal gap between garage floor and bottom of tarp...keep it no more than 2 inches.

There is allot more to it than just painting it. A high volume compressor, body tools sanders,etc. Spray gun. Knowing how to mask properly. Removing all trim, lights etc. Knowing what sand paper to use when, where, and why. How to feather out scratches and fill them with primer. How to do body work. Product knowledge.In general you remove all removable items, you do all the body work, you sand the entire car, you mask off the windows etc., you prime with several different products, you sand the primer, you then re mask, you wash with prep solvent, you tack it off, you paint with one of several different paint systems.
