Can a car be insured in both Canada and the US at the same time?

Question:
Is there a company that will do this? We are from the US, and will be living in Canada for only a year and a half.

Answers:

Obscure Traffic Violation ;(?

When you move to Canada, you will need to get permanent insurance there. Most companies will cover you in both countries for incidental trips. But, you need permanent insurance where you are domiciled. This applies to Canada/USA only - to the best of my knowledge, no companies want to cover you while in Mexico and exclude it altogether.
