The worlds fastest "production car" is, or was, a McLaren F1. The top speed is 240. I say "was" because the new Bugatti Veyron may have exceeded that speed record, I just dont know for sure. The McLaren was built within the last 10 years with the goal of becoming the fastest production car in the world. With about 650 hp, and a price of $1 million, they succeded.

The Bugatti Veyron, however, has over 1000 hp and uses 4 wheel drive to get the power to the pavement. Although it is much heavier than the McLaren, with this much power and a very aerodynamic shape, it should be able to exceed the McLaren's top speed.
