Should I report a spreeding driver to Crimestoppers or to our local Police? I want to stay anonymous as this chap is a likeable bloke but when he gets behind the wheel he is downright dangerous. Every night he takes his girl-friend home, about 5 miles away down winding country roads, with speed-limits, and he seems to be trying to beat his own record. He has got it down from 29 mins to 17! Something has to be done to stop him before he kills himself, his girl-friend or some other innocent person. Can't say anything to him myself - he's young, I'm old, so he'll probably tell me to mind my own business.

Your opinion of his speed counts as nothing. The police would need either to catch him with a mobile speed camera of put a police car behind him with a certified speedometer or lascar.ie. good factual evidence is required and all your evidence amounts to is hearsay at best.

With all the other cases the police have to deal with I cannot see them being able or willing to devote time to this and therefore any report you make is likely to waste a littlemore of their time.

Have you thought that he might suspect you and then all he would have to do is report you for dropping litter, putting out your rubbish on the wrong day or putting something wrong in a recycling bin and you would get a substantially bigger fine!!

I would have to agree with contacting the Police, I would hate for one of my family to be snuffed out in a second by a mad lunatic who thinks he is God behind a steering wheel. His record is 17mp/h - now according to all the traffic laws I know of, 17mp/h isn't breaking any UK speed limit, unless he is driving 5 miles of hospital entry route...

If he's young and you're old, maybe it's better to leave well alone. What you see as a potential danger may not necessarily be that danger. He will have better reaction times (I hope) and maybe, just maybe he's a damn good driver! Young folk can be good drivers, you know. You are in a no win situation.If you report him to the police it will back fire especially if he finds out it was you.Have you tried talking to him tell him your worried for his safety.If he takes no notice then its his own fault if anything does happen.Personally I would let him get on with it.
