I have had 48 driving lessons now using the same car and instructor .A week before my test she has changed her car . Had my first lesson in the car last tuesaday and it was a nightmare. The brakes felt sharper the clutch had to have more pressure applied ,the gears were slugish so everytime i went in to 2nd gear i ended up in 4th gear. It really knocked my confidence . The car i am used to was replaced by her husbands car he is also an instructor. I asked if i could still learn in the other one and to be honest her reply was very abrupt "20 other people have said the new car is fine " i find that hard to believe . I have now cancelled my test . Any advice would be appricated do you think she is being fair to me when i was only a week away from test ?

I don't think that is fair, I am used to my own car when I have to drive my mum's I find it different like the steering wheel is lighter, the brake pedal and changing the gears - I get used to it. No I don't think that's very fair.I went for a few lessons with an instructor but I hated her car, and said that I didn't need many more lessons. She said I wouldn't be able to get my license. I went for my license two weeks later and got it, and I've been driving for two years. Driving instructors do NOT know everything.

Thats unfortunate timing ! You should pick up the new car very quickly though just keep at it and you'll soon get it all backThe Driving Schools have to change cars that a fact of life and you're the unlucky one who's been affected this time.

Pretty much fair, if you are to roll on the streets with passengers and pedestrians, you have to prove your capability.who knows any good car jokes ex. Ford= Found On Road Dead or Geo= Good Engineering Overlooked?
No I dont think its fair,it can take an experienced driver quite a while to get used to a different car,and your only getting an hour in it.Cant she let you use the other car for your test?

no she is not being fair, and just practise in the other car or find new instructor with same car as old one , do bare in mind though all cars are different and they all feel different to each other even if they are the same model ..what would it cost to ship a car from Ca to Texas?

Your instructor is there to help you pass your test, if the other car is available she should allow you to use it for your test.Maybe you should consider using another Instructor for a couple of lessons.

Having said that, when you pass your test, you will be getting your own car which is probably going to be very different from the one you learned in.
For every new car you get, you have to get used to the way it drives as no 2 cars feel the same.
Persevere for another couple of lesson till you're used to it.

If her husband has her old car ask to be taught by him as he is an instructor. Having recently passed my test having a familiar car does help as my sister had the same problem as you and she too had all her confidence stripped of her.If the car you used to learn in has completely gone you can try and find an instructor who drives the same model car, they tend to use similar cars and there is nothing stopping you doing that.

6. I learned to drive in a Ford Pick-up truck, then when it came time to do my test, I drove my sister's chevette. My car ended up being a 1978 Volare, 4 door Sedan with V8 engine. Those are all very different vehicles.

well yes and no.if she still has the old car, and its legal to use then yes she is being unfair.
but if the car is not in use or its been sold then yes she is being fair.
if you are ready to drive then you should really be able to drive any car, a new car should really only take you an hour to get use to, its no big deal, but with your test your feeling it a lot more. remember you are in-charge your paying her good money so if your not happy with her, take it somewhere else there's a lot out thee.

No,I would go with someone else. As a person who had many many driving lessons I can advise you that if you have any ill feeling about your instructor, its best to change them change. She did not even give you any warning, she must have known she was getting a new car, she should had advised you well before your test was due. Shes out for money not your interests.

Hi sorry what ever you do Don't give in, yes all cars will differ in a slight way a new clutch will differ from a older one that's run in so the biting point will change but to be honest that's some thing you need to adapt to if you hired a car out it's going to have a feeling of it's own But work's just the same only way to get fully round this is if you had your own wheels to use, i guess for a student money is some thing els !! there are channels you can pursue if you feel fowl play is a fact!! you need an under standing car owner boy friend willing to let you in on his wheels,Actually... It DOES NOT sound fair.
I'd really ask some of the other students to see if they like the new car. It might be they are trying to get you to fail so you have to take more lessons..
If I where you i'd find a friend, parent or someone with a car that you could borrow and drive that for the week. Get use to it and take the test in that.

I never took driving instructions from a school. How long do they last? Half an hour, an Hour? Really opened up MY eyes. 48 lessons plus a few more and you are ready to hit the road? WOW. I had to go a year and learn on ALL forms of conditions with my parents. Rain, Ice, Snow, Traffic, No Traffic, freeway, Tricky intersections and On Ramps that are blind. Feel LUCKY!
