Why "Sales Event" instead of just a "Sale"?

Question:
Years ago, auto dealerships would advertise "sales". A few years ago, the terminology changed to "sales event". Why did this change? Did some law or regulation change with regard to what auto dealers could legitimately call a sale or something?

It goes with the culture...since the 90's everything had to be "extreme" or "to the max". Adding the word "event" makes it sound like its more important and bigger than just a sale. so since it is an "event" you must be saving more money.the real truth is that with the added advertising costs and promotional fees...you would probably be better off going in on any given day instead of during an "event"
