I am thinking about driving 18 wheelers for a living.which company is the best to drive for?

Question:
and how moch money can i make.

Answers:

Petrol or diesel? I travel short distances and less than 10,000 miles each year, so is it worth buying diesel?

I have been a T-T driver for over 20 yrs and depending on what type of home time you want and your age and family situation that is what would make me decide the trucking company I would drive for
here are some guide lines i would follow for a new driver
1
DO not go to work for a company that will not train you for free
and make you sign a contract with them to reimburst them for the training ( get the training yourself if at all posibble you do not want to be beholdent to a trucking company for your training
because in my experience I have seen and heard stories about the company giving the driver less mileage and holding there pay for the training
2
always ask what the home time policy is and what you are expected to do for them on the road some companys take advantage of there drivers while they are out on the road and keep then from there home area to keep them running and being able to return home
3
ask what the detention rate is for being stuck on a delivery and when you start getting paid for it also ask what the lay over pay is a lay over is when you have to stop driving and take a 10 hr break by law also be very weary about them laying you over at a delivery stop because you are doing it for free for them
4
get your own training and try to keep local so you can have adequete home time

where can a find a good guide on becoming a courier driver?

most trucking companys are terrible to there drivers and exspecialy newbies on the road because you dont know the game and they will take advantage of it
making money as a truck driver is a good financial disicion but be very careful and keep track of your mileage and hours that are owed to you and question them imediatley if you feel you are owed money
there are so many variables with each company and there policies that it is hard to name a company
so look into the local areas around you and check into them schnieder national is a good company and jb hunt is alright
stay away from swift . conway is a great company if ya can get a position as a driver there ABF is ok
but make sure ya look into it carefully and read the fine print if ya get into a learn to drive program with anyone
if ya have any questions please feel free to e-mail me

I would be glad to give ya anymore info you would like
