Look, I expect to pay a bit more for parts on a foreign car, but I was told I could trust this mechanic by a person that I trust completely.

It depends on how long it takes, because the labor costs vary. I can find the MAF sensor (remanufactured) at Napa for around $270, assuming it is the 2.3 SOHC motor in your car. Now if they had to troubleshoot to find that the MAF was bad, and then replace it, then I would say this is about right.
