Question:
I have got the kit allready, A friend told me to lower the compresion with a different head gasket. Is this true?
Answers:
What exactly does a programmer do for a truck?
Yes turbo charged engines have lower compression ratio 9:1 or there abouts, did you buy the kit specifically for your civic, because there's a fair bit of work in fitting it and getting right, if you get it wrong you could end up with lower performance.Good Luck
lol, buy a nice car that your proud of, dont play chav machanic! xx
why is the black snow that falls off your car so slippery?
Not sure that a thicker gasket would lower it enough. There are several firms that specialise in tuning Hondas and also in turboing them. They should be able to tell you if there is anything more needed than the gasket, ie machining a bit off the top of the pistons. The BA16 or 16 2 engine seems to respond well to a well sorted Turbo kit. Anything up to 300 brake is possible. Only thing is that the car is light on the road with just 160 brake, it would be a hell of a handfull with the kind of power your contemplating.Ha, you should really check when you have bought it!
Stock Honda engines actually respond very well to turbo charging. They are short stroke engines so they don't have a high compression ration to start with. You can fit a light pressure kit (about 6 psi) onto the 1.6 engine with no problems (I assume it's the HKS, Greddy or Blitz kit which are tailor made for the car). A LPT kit will see you up to about 200/220bhp. Past that, and you'll need start beefing the internals up. It's not so much the compression ratio, more the piston crowns melting, con rods snapping and crankshaft bending. The biggest concern is cooling, the stock cooling system was never meant to cope with a turbo kit, so if not supplied, get an intercooler fitted, and put some louvres in the bonnet (use louvres, not scoops, you want the air going out, not coming in).
Forget about using a thicker gasket. Waste of time in this application. Although if you have the head off, a metal wired gasket would be a worthwhile upgrade to cope with the higher temperatures.
Hope that helps
