Question:
I have my driving test coming up and I am having trouble with my left reverse around a corner. Does anyone have any tips/methods on how to carry this out? I'm learning in a vauxhall corsa! Thanks in advance

As an ex. BSM instructor, it was the one area of my advanced driving test that I struggled with too!Are you burning fuel if you are letting your car idle at a red light or parking lot?
There's two elements to this: a) keeping the car the correct distance from the kerb and b) getting the point of turn right. Has you instructor got you to find a "marker" on the rear of the car (the rear screen wiper is a good one on the Corsa)? When you are parked at the kerb, you need to find the position of the kerb relative to a point on the wiper, where the two "meet", in effect. Once you have found that, all you need to do is keep the kerb on the same spot on the wiper and that will ensure you keep the correct distance from the kerb.
How to back up with a big car? Help?
As regards turning at the right time, when you see the kerb disappear from your marker point, this is when you need to start turning the wheel - start with a half to three quarter turn and adjust it from there. When you see the kerb coming back into view, start to straighten up.

For goodness sake, don't forget your observations - it's the most common area for failure on this manoeuvre. You need a head like an owl on this one! Forget to do an all round check before the front of the car swings out and you'll have stuffed it. The other common area for failing is forgetting observations when pulling away from the kerb at the end of the exercise. People get so relieved at having completed it, they often just drive off! The examiner won't be looking for an immaculate "2 inches from the kerb all the way round" job, but he will be looking for:
- good progress, no undue hesitanchy
- good all round observations
- complete control of the car
I hope this helps - Good luck!!

Go slow and don't panic. Use your wing mirror and back window.Should a person cover his car all winter in Michigan?
I have to confess that I've long been a convert of automatic cars. They are sooooo much easier and more relaxing to drive than manuals and you can get automatic versions of practically every car on the road. Negotiating car parks, parking, slow speed manoeuvres like three point turns - they're all so much easier without all the faffing with the clutch and biting point.Does anyone know who has the cheapest rates on a moving van going one way?
I do have a full driving licence for a manual car (passed first time) and I'm a member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists so I'm hardly a "Maureen". I just think that when you can sit in comfort and only deal with two pedals, why bother with three?

You don't see many people washing their clothes in the local river - they use labour saving washing machines.
does a driving license get suspended after one count of speeding and reckless driving?
Before you move, look all around and use all mirrors.Slowly reverse and keep and eye on the curb, as you start to turn, stop moving and look around.
Turn the wheel right a bit as you go around the corner, so you don't hit the curb.
Look behind you, then straighten up, keeping your eyes on the curb.
When you are straight, go a bit faster and watch behind you.
If you steer too much to the left as you go round the corner, stop, move forward and to the right, then re-try.
I hope this helps.
how do you find out about the status of your drivers license (PA)?
Your driving instructor should be able to help you if i remember i had to keep the view of the kerb in the corner of the back window as i reversed around you can put a sticker in the window and follow that ,Find somewhere safe to practise and sooner or later you will feel confident and get it right every time
Remember on your test try to relax and not rush any manoeuvres i passed my test in a Corsa
Good luck on your test
Know of any good looking 4-wheel drive cars?
Look behind throught the windows at the back (doesnt have to be just the back window can be the side one's at the back too) 90% of the time.Check your left wing mirror to see how close you are to the kerb.
Dont get too close. Stay about a foot away and you shuold be ok.
Move slow, you DONT get knocked down on points if your going slow reversing.
Dont forget your 'look rounds' and stop the car if you see anyone coming.
Wait to see where the car is going to go (if he stops for you then eok, carry on but DONT GET NERVOUS just because you think your being watched!)
Carry on the turn nice and slow, careful if you are on a hill. You'll need to keep your foot over the break if you are going down a hill, and a little extra gas if your going up a hill.
any ih scout lovers out there?
Above all just relax. the examiners are human and know you'll be nervous.
Oh one more thing.. dont hit the kerb...thats a big no no...
