Because a big portion of the money you spend on gas is going to the state for a little thing they like to call "Highway Usage Tax". And since 18 wheelers are so heavy they wear out the roadways and bridges more quickly. So the government makes them pay.it your govt. at work stealing your money
Its called another form of screwing us
Govt regulations have forced them into more stringent refining but I think it is largely an excuse to screw the public. Recent record profits do not equal higher refining cost. It equals corporate greed with the governments blessing.

supply in demandDo tow truck companies normally operate 24 hours a day or do they shut off at midnight?
there's two types of Diesel fuel. the off road fuel is called red diesel and there's street diesel. Street diesel is more expensive because it's more refined and has better emission ratings. the cost went up when Dodge and Ford started making Diesel fuel motors in they're pick up trucks making a semi driver cost go up as well. I went from buying fuel for 86 cents a gal. to $3.00 a gal thus, making it hard to fill your 240 gal. tanks. red fuel went up a tad due to the building and construction boom. Are there towns that allow golf carts to be used for daily transportation?
Our government has nothing to do with setting the price of refined petroleum products. Diesel does cost less to refine, but highway usage taxes drive the price up. Very little of what we pay at the pump actually goes to an oil company. Most of the price we pay at the pump goes toward the taxes imposed by the federal and especially the state governments in which the fuel is being pumped.More Questions & Answers ...
