Question:
I have just acquired a 1991 Renault Clio (girly car!) which still has michelin snow tyres on the front wheels - we get lots of snow round here (central france).
Why don't cops have car horns like regular cars?
They need to be changed for normal tyres. Although i don't drive particularly fast, nearly all the roads round here are twisty, and i don't appreciate it when the front end loses grip in the rain, so i need something with plenty of grip in wet & dry weather.

What would be the best brand of tyre, maybe not top of the range, but not kwikfit cheapies?

Tyres for this car should not be too expensive, but price can vary from place to place. The best thing to do is ring around different garages and note down the prices (make sure the price includes tax (VAT) fitting and balancing).how much horse power would the most expensive turbo charger add to a 1967-1970 muscle car?
When getting tyres fitted, it is always advisable to have the deepest tread on the back (so it may be worth getting the garage to do swap the wheels round or doing it yourself at home). This is for two reasons:
what are taxi prices based on?
-Tyres wear quicker on the front on front wheel drive cars (as they have to steer and put the power down). If back tyres are left until they wear down (which will be a long time) the rubber can perish and cause crazing in the sidewalls (potentially dangerous)
-Less tread on the back means less rear end grip, and this means the back end is more likely to slide out under hard cornering (especially in bad conditions). This is called oversteer and is difficult to control. Putting the deeper treaded tyres on the back prevents this
Why do guys like and want to own fast cars?
As for make of tyre, Goodyear, Uniroyal (rain tyres) and Continental all make tyres that are decent quality but don't cost a fortune. I have Goodyear GT2s on my car, and they were a very reasonable price.
Does anyone know of a website that offers routes such as yahoo!maps that has "back roads"?
That size of tyre shouldn't be too dear even if you go for a good brand. I have Avons on my car in Scotland. (Wet, snow, twisty roads also!) Also look at Pirelli, Goodyear, Firestone etc. Stay away from cheapies, they don't hold the road so well and often wear out sooner.More Questions & Answers ...
