What do the "L" and "2" mean on my gear shift? I know that "D" means drive, "P" is park, and "N" is neutral.

Question:
But what about the other letters? I've been driving for 17 years now, but I've never known what they were for & have always wondered & figured some nice person on this site would tell me.

If I have a CDL license, can I loose my license if I drink alchol when not working?

Thanks! =)

Strange vibration?

those 2 gear selections can be used for extra traction in ice and snow. If ur stopped on an icy road, and u try to start moving but slip, try shifting from D into L or 2 and u'll get more traction from the start

Cruise Control?

L is for low, meaning the 1st gear in your automatic transmission.
2 is for the second gear of your automatic transmission.

Low is low gear (1st) and 2 is second gear. This is a way to manually downshift your automatic transmission, but in most cases, it is best just to put it in Drive and go.

Are the Hertz Shelby mustang rental cars all booked? Does anyone know if any are available?

"L" means low (or 1st gear), and "2" means 2nd gear. They're for any situation, like driving on the snow and ice, that you might want to limit how fast your car goes down hills, etc. Very usefull!!

how much do they charge for driver's lessons now??

"L" means lazy and "2" means too fast! No, seriously, "L" means low gear - equalivalent to 1st gear- and "2" means 2nd gear. You can use these two gears to help you get through heavy mud or snow. When in "D" your transmission shifts through low and 2nd for you. Low and 2nd allow you to shift gears for yourself if you need to, or want to. Most folks don't want to, that's why the bought a car with an automatic transmission to begin with.
