Why all this water in the oil business ?? Head gaskets can leak elsewhere without any coolant leaks. If a gasket blows between cylinders and does not blow at the coolant passage from block to head there will be a misfire feeling in the engine. Run a compression test and if two cylinders next to each other have the same reading you have found the gasket failure.Depends, Air cooled loss of power and noise like an exhaust b low.
Water cooled engines can blow between cylinders leading to a lousy tick over and power loss, epecially old BL A series engines, others blow water from the cooling system or lose water into the oil, while others leak water or oil externally.
Trouble is the gasket failure will also cause the head to warp needing re facing and if it carries the camshaft it will need facing top cam carrier side as well as arranging for the cam carrier toi be faced to suit , big job.
