On a stock production car; not really. If you're building a car for racing and taking away the catalytic converters and mufflers then it's definitely better because it allows more exhaust flow which reduces engine backpressure.Better air flow which give you a little bit more horsepower and it looks cooler.

size and amount matters best for the looks, but i aint too sure if power or anything changes (im not saying it doesnt though)the better your car breathes, both in and out , the better it will perform, that is why dual exhaust , two sets of pipes from the engine all the way to the tailpipe, works better...

If it's a V8 yes. If it's a putt putt four banger it's just plain stupid. Size matters depending on how big the engine is and how much power it has. Going to big is just a bad as being to small. Two is more than enough. Unless there is little room for true dual exhaust. Than one bigger pipe might work better.running two exhausts is best if you have two manifolds, but just for single you could increase diamater and add a high flow muffler only! towards the rear of the car. and chrome always looks nice, good luck

The real reason, why cars have dual exhausts, is because the engine is not mounted horizontally, or the engine has to two camshafts meaning it's a v6 v8 v12. another reason is because it's rear wheel drive why the engine is vertical. like let's say the Corvette. Rear wheel V8, make sense? it'd lose a lot of power if it was a single pipe. because both sides of that engine is throwing out exhausts. two manifolds. On some cars like let's say the S2000 i4cylinder is mainly looks because it only has one exhaust manifold. it is a nesscity on some motors because they way they are mounted, and postitioned. Some use it for looks. Think about it makes sense. Basically if you're looking to throw on a dual exhaust on a car that doesn't come with it, especially on a single exhaust manifold then it is just pointless and stupid. there's a reasons why things are the way they are on a automobile. =)
There is both style and also power involved in two tail pipe systems, especially in high powered vehicles. Using two tail pipe will allow the waste exhaust gases to flow out freely making the combustion to be more powerful and giving comparitively high horsepower...NMN
