Answers:

Advisability of towing with a 1998 Toyota Avalon...?

Sounds like the slippage in the transmission .Make sure the trans fluid is topped off.If the level is low it will produce symptoms like you described .If the level is OK,you may have a more serious problem and should take it to a mechanic.

What was your very first car that you owned?

Transmission slipping.Take to Trans Repair Shop and have them verify.Sometimes the bands just need adjustment and or the Tranny filter may need to be changed.Check tranny fluid level first and fill if needed.Trans fluid expands when it gets warm.So check fluid at operating temerature.Add fluid a little at a time if needed.Be sure it is the recommended fluid for that particular trans.
