How to back up with a big car? Help?

Question:
I have trouble backing up/reversing in the parking lot and in my parking space. I so use to driving a small car, I use to have a small car and when i back up out of a parking space i usually look at my mirror in the car, that one mirror where you can look directly back and the car is small so it's really easy but NOW I drive a bigger car and i can't use that mirror in the car b/c the car is pretty big and i've been trying to use the mirrors on the side but it's really hard. I don't know when i'm too close to the opposite parked car and i don't want to hit the other car. My question is how can I back up without hitting the opposite parked car and how do i iknow when to stop and how do i use the side mirrors and when should i stop before hitting the car behind me. I don't want to get too close to the car parked in the opposite parking space when i'm backing up. Thankyou so much!

It always helps to practice. If you have the spare time, take your car to an empty lot and practice backing it toward stationary objects. Back up until you think you're really close. Try and estimate how far you think you are from the object before you get out and look. Then get out and see how close you are. As you practice, you will get used to judging distance from the driver's perspective.

Most of all - Have fun. Driving should be a pleasurable experience. It is this mentality that is common among Americans and makes driving an American pass-time.
