Question:
I need to Know, thanks
Answers:
A little history, first: In January 1973, when I first started driving, gas was 26.9 cents/gallon. The big 1973 gas shortage came shortly thereafter and gas rose very quickly to about 65.9 cents / gallon. It stayed in the 65 - 70 cents per gallon range until the second big gas shortage in late 1978 and early 1979.
In answer to your question; approximately 65.9 cents per gallon.

Added later: I found this response to the same question asked previously on Yahoo. It doesn't say what the source of the info was: 63 cents/gallon
