Actually, the reason that bulldozers have tracks,is more about not sinking than traction. It is true that a "Track" lays more surface area on the ground than a tyre. But the 'cleats' on a 'track plate', are quite small in comparison to an off road tyre tread. However that square footage is rather good at keeping a heavy load from sinking into soft ground. (Its all about surface tension) Once the 'crust' on the ground has been broken, water can penetrate to lower layers and it wont be long before you have a swamp of Mud.
