Does modding a cars engine affect its MPG?

Question:
im a college student and i am currently looking for a car. ive seen alot of cars that i like at reasonable prices and some of them have had their engines modified. does this make the cars MPG change??

Answers:

Dou know anyone over the age of 20 that does not drive?

It varies with what part of the car is modded. If its something like a cai (cold air induction) then no but if its supercharge and they upgraded the fuel system from say 24# to 39# fuel injectors then obviously you can expect to see some gas mileage loss. So basically it's hard to say in general without knowing what the mods are but most of the time the gas mileage loss is only minimal unless the car is severly modded.

Does anyone know where on the Internet to find California vehicle codes?

possibly it all depends on what was changed

Where can I find pics of wrecked diesel trucks?

Yes, usually for the worst however. A car's mpg rating can be increased with mods for better air flow in and out and hotter spark. Any mods dealing with more gas equal, well, worst mpg. Also, most cars with mod'd engines also have louder sounding exhausts. This tends to incite a more aggressive driving style. Some may describe this as them "driving enthusiastically", or, heavier on the pedal.

How many cars are produced in the world every hour? What source?

You want good gas mileage? Look for an older Honda Civic, Accord, or even a little Toyota Corolla.something with 4cyl engine. Any one of them would be dependable, great on gas, and you can mod it as your income increases if you like. Heck, get a motorcycle for about 4,000 and enjoy 40+ mpg. :)

I want to find a blue butterfly or just butterfly license plate frame. Any suggestions?

Yes, modifying an engine changes many aspects relating to the performance of the engine-- including efficiency, horsepower, drive-ability and most importantly, reliability. If you're looking for reliable transportation on a budget, your best bet would be to steer clear of any cars which have been modified.

Logic Question about Cars?

I emphasize reliability because you mentioned that you're a college student, and you don't need your car to give you problems at this point in your life.

Will their be big changes in car designs by the year 2020?

You might look around for a good clean Honda or Toyota as they are notoriously reliable makes. Just remember to stay away from any "tuner" car. You can get your dream car later after you succeed in school and score that great job.
