Are you talking about the VIN # ?Usually if the car is taken in you can turn in the Title with it, OR if it is just a piece of junk it is not necessary. IF the car is in your name and when it comes time to pay Personal Porperty tax on it, just mark it no longer owned, and provide the info of what you did with it. EX: Sale, Scrap, etc... Also people do this to transfer the VIN #s to another vehicle WHICH IS against the Law to do so as the DMV has the info on file for that car. Its jail time in the asking if someone does this.
