Everyone knows for a long time the Big 3 automakers have had their heads in the sand, do not give customers stylish, useful, fuel efficient vehicles.and have sat on their duffs for a long time. It took a good dose of competition from foreign companies to even get them to wake up...their marketing departments were filled with "Yes" men obviously who were afraid or unaware of what the public demanded and it took government regulaton to increase fuel efficiency. It takes them an average of 3-5 years to institute change and the breaucracy is killing them. Which one of the big three do you think will be left standing when Toyota is #1 and Honda #2?

Chivie or FordI don't see Honda becoming number 2 or 3 for a while.. Not enough production to make it that high (Honda is more worried about it's complete production than just building cars like the american 3 and toyota)
American car companies tried to give the american car buying public what it thought it wanted... If Ford could get the emissions right, they could flood america with fuel efficent cars and smaller cars from europe and Australia for example. Toyota and Honda though have been pretty much been building the same car for the past 15 years so I can say that yes they have refined their cars better.

Chrysler is having issues with survival,espcially when it won't ramp down production, Gm's main issues has been not taking care in design and also in their taking care of they buyers, Ford if it can swing the american buying public with volvo designed and engineers who are learnign from volvo how to build a good car.. Ford has some major issues espcially with some quality control but I see Gm and Ford surviving even if they have to merge.

But I also see Honda and toyota owners seeing the real company real soon espcially when non-import owners (as I find import owners are forced taught about maintaince) who buy these cars start moaning and growning when these cars require more money to maintain them than they spent previously on their "POS" american car.
All three are worth each other, and at this point have no hope. The main reason behind it is the "American Corporate Culture" of greed and fraud.
